| Why Choose Wheat? | July 13th, 2007 |

Bread is an important part of a meal to many families. It’s sandwiches. It’s a part of dinner. But many times you don’t choose the healthiest breads. Many families strongly prefer white bread to wheat. But if you want to think about which is best for you, wheat is the obvious choice. Wheat flour offers much more nutrition. The flour used for white bread is typically bleached, and many of the original nutrients are gone, replaced with enrichments that don’t generally beat out what the original wheat had. Some brands use high fructose corn syrup as well, to make the bread sweeter, which is more appealing to children and many adults. In my experience, once you get used to wheat, white tastes terribly bland. There’s just nothing to white bread. It lacks the complex flavors of wheat. I love to make wheat bread. I have what I find to be a wonderful whole wheat bread recipe on this site. I just throw the ingredients in the bread maker to mix it, but make it into loaves on my own because I don’t like the size of the breadmaker’s loaves. Comes out to quite a bit less per loaf than buying bread too. I also prefer wheat bread. White is just.. bland, and not good for us. I like the wheat and grain bread that has nice big chunks of seeds and things in it.
