Chocolate Time! April 14th, 2007

No matter how healthy you want to eat, there are probably times that you just need to indulge in chocolate. It’s one of those foods that can be so wonderful even when it’s so bad for you. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be all bad.

My personal preference for chocolate indulgence is the occasional high quality dark chocolate. More antioxidants, and a Hershey’s bar just can’t come close to the flavor. Even a small piece can be quite satisfying.

Another favorite is chocolate covered strawberries, or just about any chocolate covered berry for that matter. It’s a two in one delightful treat, and if the berries are cheap I can make it at home.

Chocolate covered raisins are good also, but a bit too easy to overeat. They’re just so little that if you don’t watch it, you’ll go overboard on them.

Chocolate chip meringue drops are another favorite of mine.

The challenge is in keeping things reasonable, especially when you’re craving chocolate. A little piece isn’t always enough. Low fat chocolate flavored treats often aren’t enough. Eating chocolate isn’t about the fat or the calories, after all, it’s about the taste.
