Do you write your shopping list out or do you just keep a mental one? I generally prefer the mental one, although it does put me at risk for forgetting rarely purchased items. But for regular shopping it works for me. Some people prefer to write out their lists. If you can stick to that list, it’s a great help with impulse control, especially if you focus on that as you create your list. But if you’re like me, and just use a mental list, you have to resolve to have control. One of my preferred tactics is to simply not walk down the aisles with foods such as potato chips and other unhealthy snacks. It’s much harder to avoid temptation if I go through those aisles. There’s a trick to each shopping method. If you write out your list before hand, take the time to include more careful planning. You can have a list ready for writing down the things you run out of, but also go through and plan a few meals. If your planning is healthy and avoids poor food choices, your shopping should go better. If you prefer the mental list, make sure that you are resolved on keeping things healthy. It is very possible to make healthy eating plans when figuring out your shopping, and once again simply a matter of sticking to your goals when you’re actually at the store. Keeping unhealthy foods out of the house is one of the simplest ways to keep eating healthy. If the food isn’t there in front of you, you are quite simply less likely to eat things you shouldn’t.
