| Does Your Family Eat at the Table? | August 28th, 2007 |

One of the keys to eating well is to eat where you ought to, as a family. In front of the television really is not a good habit, yet far too many families do just that. After all, watching television is fun. But a nice set of dining furniture can help to motivate you and your family to eat where you really ought to. There’s nothing like a beautiful dining table to enjoy a good meal on. The table doesn’t have to be huge. Sites such as Great Priced Furniture.com have a wonderful selection of bar tables for those of you who don’t need to seat a lot of people or are really tight on space. They’re very attractive pieces. There are larger ones that can seat a good number of people as well as the smaller ones for those who just really don’t need that much space. Posted in Advice || No Comments »

| Packing a Healthy School Lunch | August 21st, 2007 |

It’s back to school time, and that means your kids may be out of reach for one very important meal – lunch! But you can do your best for them by sending them off to school with a healthy lunch in their bag. The lunch box you use can make a difference. A good box makes it easy to provide a good variety of foods, rather than relying solely on sandwiches and a simple side. I love the Laptop Lunches box you can get at ReusableBags.com. Lots of compartments and even a small, lidded box for a dipping sauce. Kids love to dip their foods. If you’re lucky, your kids will love raw vegetables. Carrots, sugar snap peas, bell peppers, cucumbers and so forth all pack really well. If you’re using that Laptop Lunches box, you can easily include a dip that will encourage your child to really enjoy their veggies. Read the rest of this entry » |

| Healthy Eating on Busy School Days | August 16th, 2007 |

With the kids going back to school, it’s time to start thinking about how to feed them in a rush. Things can get mighty hectic on school days, but if you can keep the healthy habits going your family will benefit. Start by making it easy. Have healthy snacks be far more available than unhealthy snacks. If you don’t provide chips and soda, for example, your kids can’t eat them so often. Instead, have things like chopped up vegetables and fruits sitting in the fridge. Maybe a dip for them that you know the kids enjoy. Read the rest of this entry » |

| Canned Fish Offers More Omega-3s | August 13th, 2007 |

I have to admit – I love tuna. Definitely my favorite fish. So easy to make a quick meal with it – open up a can, mix it with the other ingredients, heat if necessary, and it’s done. But apparently canned fish such as tuna also offer more omega-3s. In other words, they may be better for you than other kinds of fish. Water packed is generally better than oil packed because oil and water don’t mix. You know how much liquid you drain out of the can when you eat tuna. If it’s packed in oil, the omega-3 oils can drain out with the other oil. Canned salmon is even better for you in terms of how much omega-3 you get. Health experts encourage people to eat fish twice a week. Fish is also low in saturated fat. Check out my seafood recipes for some ideas on how to prepare various kinds of fish.
